ON
THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST, we’re redefining retirement.
It’s traditionally been defined as "withdrawing
oneself," but we’ve given it a whole new meaning. We see
retirement not as a time to withdraw, but instead as a
time to immerse oneself in all the wonderful things life
has to offer. And oh what the Mississippi Gulf Coast has
to offer...a beautiful location, fun, fulfillment,
affordability and much, much more!Our
white sand beach stretches for 26 miles along the Gulf
of Mexico, offering not only an amazing view, but also a
wide array of activities. Charter boats are available
year round for deep-sea fishing or you can simply cast
your line from the shore. Local saltwater fish include
speckled trout, redfish and grouper...both fun to catch
and great to eat! Boating is another popular pastime on
the Gulf...you can take up sailing, hop on a ferry to
the island or if you’re really adventurous, rent a jet
ski for the day.
If you’re looking for something a little
more laid back, grab a good book and spend the day
relaxing on the beach. Watch the pelicans as they skim
the water and the dolphins as they play in the Gulf
before you. And of course, as the sun goes down, don’t
miss the magnificent sunset. If you want a little more
seclusion, our barrier islands can be reached by a quick
boat trip and are a great place for beachcombing,
picnicking or camping. For a change of scenery, several
rivers and two bays provide many of the same activities
as the Gulf, but instead of seeing a pelican or a
dolphin, look out for an egret or a gator!
Our beautiful landscape and great
year-round weather also make the Mississippi Gulf Coast
a top destination for golfers. Not to mention, our green
fees are surprisingly lower than those of comparable
golf resort areas. Over 15 courses, from entertaining to
challenging, are scattered across the Coast, and many
new ones are in planning stages or already under
construction, so you can pick a favorite or play them
all.
After a long day on the gulf or on the
green, follow the bright lights to one of our casinos
for some Las Vegas style fun and excitement without the
hustle and bustle of the big city. In addition to slot
machines and games like blackjack and roulette, they
also feature top entertainers, sporting events and
excellent restaurants. So even if you’re not a big
gambler, they’re a great place to catch dinner and a
show!
For a more intimate evening out, you can
try any one of our wonderful local restaurants. With
succulent fresh seafood and unique Coast specialties,
you’re sure to find something that tempts your taste
buds. When complemented with our southern hospitality
and friendly service, your dining experience is
guaranteed to be memorable every time!
Good food and good times go hand in hand
on the Gulf Coast, so if you enjoy both, this is the
place to be. Our rich culture is highlighted throughout
the year with many festivals and celebrations. The
Oyster Festival, Crawfish Festival and Biloxi Shrimp
Festival celebrate local delicacies and blues and jazz
festivals take it to the stage with their unique brands
of music. Art lovers can’t miss the Peter Anderson
Festival in the fall where our many local artists
showcase their work. And of course, our French Catholic
Heritage gives us Mardi Gras with weeks of parades and
celebrations.
Experiencing our rich culture will
definitely broaden your horizons, but if you’re
interested in expanding them even further, you can do
that here too. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is home to
many schools of continuing education, including
University of Southern Mississippi, University College
of Tulane and William Carey College, as well as several
community colleges, offering classes year round.
Whether expanding your mind or just
having fun, you will have no problem getting from one
activity to another. Traveling around the Coast is a
breeze with our local transportation system. Buses and
trolleys are available to take you from one end of the
Coast to the other. And when your family is ready to
visit, which we’re sure will be often, our local
international airport will make it convenient.
If our new definition of retirement
sounds good to you, give us a call to find out more
about what we have to offer. We know you still have a
lot of living to do. We also know there’s no better
place to do it than on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where
we’re Redefining Retirement!
