An Enchanting Evening at Thirty-Two

The Mississippi gulf coast is known for its southern hospitality and great food. In fact, the Coast offers many restaurants, each one having very tasty menus. There is one restaurant, however, that I’d like to share with you, and if you take my advice and try this restaurant, I know you’ll be ImPressed! There’s only one thing that surpasses the wonderful service that you’ll experience at this restaurant, the menu!

The other night my darling wife Lisa and I decided to head out for an evening on the town. We made reservations for dinner at IP’s Thirty-Two. If you’re wondering why it is called “Thirty-Two”, it’s because the restaurant is located on the thirty second floor of the IP Casino Resort & Spa providing a beautiful view of the coast. In the evening, the view of city lights reflecting on the shimmering gulf waters is quite romantic. Live music playing softly in the background only increased the romantic ambience.

The staff was very attentive. To start us off our assistant waiter, Logan, offered us a variety of waters, and breads. The bread was served with butter and a clove of garlic which had been soaked in olive oil and then baked slowly overnight.

Angie, our main server was very knowledgeable of the menu and helped us make a decision on what to enjoy first.

Before we ordered, the Chef de Cuisine, Charlie Mcphail, came to our table to welcome us. He shared with us what his specials were for the evening, which were many. He also made a point to mention that “all of Thirty-Two’s seafood selections are fl own in fresh daily to ensure that only the finest fish and shellfish are served. Shortly thereafter we met Harry Hall, Thirty-Two’s Sommelier. He recommended a wine selection, and at his suggestion, we ordered a PATZ & HALL 2006 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay and a Robert Weil Rheingau 2004 Reisling, excellent choices.

After a few minutes of conversation and enjoying the ambience, the appetizers came. Angie served Gulf Coast crab cakes which consisted of jumbo lump crab with a very tasty remoulade sauce and stone crab claws with cocktail sauce, lemon, and mustard sauce. At first bite, we knew we were in for a fantastic experience!

After the appetizers, came the second course, French onion soup with Gruyère, Parmesan, and garlic crostini and a lobster bisque with sweet cream, brandy, and garlic herb butter.

Upon finishing our second course, Charlie came back to our table and asked us if everything was to our satisfaction. Which, of course, it was and then some!

The salad served was a sweet potato and crab salad consisting of dungenous crab, avocado, sweet potato, seasonal greens covered in sesame dijon vinaigrette. Our taste buds were in heaven! Charlie decided to spring a “Chef’s muse” on us and brought out an attractive dish of tasso shrimp, golden fried colossal shrimp stuffed with tasso cayenne beurre blanc and chili sauce.

For the main course, (as if we had room), Lisa decided to try the charbroiled white tuna with renoir topping served with lump crab meat, Gulf shrimp and fresh herbs in a chardonnay beurre blanc.

My choice was the “Surf and Turf” which consisted of the 8 oz. filet mignon and stuffed lobster tail. After devouring each of Charlie’s masterpieces, we were saddened to think that we’d left no room for dessert. Angie said, “I have just the dessert for you,” a light selection of sorbet with a chocolate décor. Perfect!

I must say that our complete experience from the time we arrived at Thirty-Two until the time we left was very pleasant and deliciously memorable. The service, along with the award winning culinary arts of Executive chef Chris Poplin and Thirty-Two’s Chefs de Cuisine, will make your dining experience, no matter what the occasion, one of the most enjoyable dining experiences you’ve ever had!
